FAST 20, SLOW 7

Last year we beat the "Young Pups" in the alumni football game. This year they were a little more prepared. They had speed to burn and youth on their side with no players graduating before 2005! They broke a few long players early before we switched to a five-man front on defense and halfway through the first quarter led 14-0! We did not help things by having two turnovers inside of their 20 by this time.

After changing our defense we started to slow them down and they did not score again until late in the third, now the score was 20-0. We had a very good drive early in the fourth that went 65 yards and I sneaked one in for the touchdown to make it 20-7.
The only problem was that as they were getting tired and we were getting things together time was running out. We had a couple of long pass plays late(one the guy dropped a sure 65 yard TD and the other was a hail mary pass that was intercepted as time expired) but both to no avail. All in all it was another great time and no serious injuries by either side.

We have now raised enough money to completely renovate the weight room and pay for all the players to go to an out of town camp each summer. It is nice to be able to help them out.

Here is a break down of the players and year graduated for both teams.

White Team, Young Pups:

2008-7(yes they graduated in May!)

2007-2(I was 21 when they were born)

2006-6(same year as my 20 year reunion)

2005-5(can they even drink legally?)

Blue Team, Old Dogs:

2005-1(we needed another back)

2002-1(big lineman that played well)

1997-1(don't even get me started about this guy)

1996-3(pretty good group)

1991-1(pokie is crazy)

1990-4(decent class)

1989-1(Ballpoint in the house)

1988-2(Seth and the Hitman who tore a hamstring)

1986-3(my class)

1984-2(even older than I am)

1972-1(yes 36 years ago!)

As you can see they had age on their side and they had all played for the same coach and ran the same offense and defense. We had a different coach all four years! And of course there were several different ones between '72 and "05. I thought we played pretty well and with some actual team practices next year I bet it will be a lot closer. If a few plays had went our way who knows. At least we won the second half 7-6! The game is Memorial Day weekend next year and Jim I expect you there.

Three questions:

1) What year did you graduate H.S.?

2) Do you attend your reunions?

3) Did you enjoy H.S.?

Bye for now,
Shane

GAME TIME

Saturday is the third annual Alumni Football Game in Cabool. Should be a good time and I hope we have a good turn out. We had our last practice Wednesday night and now it is time for some fun. I will have a large cheering section with Patty, Phil, Katie, CJ and Sophia at the game. Sophia even has some pom-poms ready. Hopefully we will raise $5,000 or more for the team.

Three questions:

1) Did you know Sophia is allergic to peanuts?

2) Where is the worst place you have ever lived?

3) Have you ever lived outside of Missouri?

Bye for now,
Shane

TOOTS

The TOM is so huge that it is pulling fans from as far away as the North Side of Springfield! This picture depicts how the N-Siders roll. Decked out in a wicked kit with the Huffy flag and a corn dog! Toots you are looking fine my man!

Three questions:

1) Did you see Mertz riding down 65 on Wednesday?

2) Did you like Biden's comment about the guy in the wheelchair?

3) What team has the best kits in the TOM?

Bye for now,
Shane
